Mary Ellen Flowers, a vibrant and loving matriarch, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on April 21, 1953, to James Franklin Flowers and Idairy Bethea Flowers, Mary Ellen's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, generosity, and love for her family.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul, James Franklin Jr. (Frankie), and Larry Darnell Flowers, and life partner Andrew Wheeler, Mary Ellen is survived by her siblings Margie Lee Flowers, Donzie Lee Flowers,(Carolyn Flowers) Donald Ray Flowers,(Gwendolyn Flowers), and Rose Marcina Flowers-Brown (Paul Brown). Her children, Chavis L. Flowers Sr, (La’Shay Strong) and Destiny Mochelle Zanobia Flowers; grandchildren Chavis L. Flowers Jr, Autumn and Aurora Rosemond, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, will deeply miss her loving presence. 

Mary Ellen attended Westside School from kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated from West Columbus High School in 1971. She furthered her education at a college in Jacksonville, Florida, from 1971 to 1972, before continuing her studies in New York.

While pursuing her education, Mary Ellen worked at a Diagnostic Center. Her passion for helping others led her to become a dedicated ACS (social worker) for the state of New York, serving for over 25 years until her retirement.

Mary Ellen's heart was filled with love and devotion for her family. She cherished every moment with her loved ones and would go to great lengths to support and care for them. Her selfless nature and commitment to her family were truly inspiring.

Mary Ellen's passions in life were cooking,traveling, shopping, and trying her luck at the casino. She savored seafood and Caribbean cuisine, and her love for 70's and 80's music was unparalleled. With a heart full of love and a spirit that sparkled, Mary Ellen touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith in God.

As a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, Mary Ellen's love knew no bounds. Her family and friends will cherish memories of her delectable cooking, infectious laughter, and the warmth of her emerald green-inspired smile.

Rest in peace, Mary Ellen Flowers; Your love, light, and legacy and memories of you will continue to inspire and uplift those who loved you.
